Estimating the cost of projects is the responsibility of a Cost Engineer. These engineers are able to analyze the requirements and specification of a project and determine the cost involved to launch such a project. Cost Engineers receive very lucrative salaries and benefits. They work normal office hours in many different industries.A Cost Engineer usually performs many of the following tasks:• Assessing risks
• Doing cost estimates
• Forecasting
• Reviewing proposed schedules
• Implementing best practices
• Performing cost control
• Analyzing variances

One key objective of cost engineering is to arrive at accurate cost estimates and schedules and to avoid cost overruns and schedule slips. Cost engineering goes beyond preparing cost estimates and schedules by helping manage resources and supporting assessment and decision making. The discipline of ‘cost engineering’ can be considered to encompass a wide range of cost-related aspects of engineering and programme management, but in particular cost estimating, cost analysis/cost assessment, design-to-cost, schedule analysis/planning and risk assessment.  The broad array of cost engineering topics represents the intersection of the fields of project management, business management, and engineering. Most people have a limited view of what engineering encompasses. The most obvious perception is that engineering addresses technical issues such as the physical design of a structure or system. However, beyond the physical manifestation of a design of a structure or system (for example, a building), there are other dimensions to consider such as the money, time, and other resources that were invested in the creation of the building. Cost engineers refer to these investments collectively as “costs”.

The Chartered Cost Engineer (ChCE) credential is a top certification in engineering cost management that demonstrates the attainment of a defined level of technical knowledge in engineering project cost management, professional practice, and ethical behavior. It forms the basis of the assessment that applicants must pass to gain Chartered Cost Engineer status and inclusion in the Register of The American Academy of Project Management® Certified / Chartered Professional. Requirements:   i)  Degree in Engineering or equivalent            ii) 3+ years as a cost engineer or similar role             iii)  Pass the ChCE examination 

Study method: Self-paced learning style with the aid of a Guide book.

HOW TO APPLY: To qualify for the Chartered Cost Engineer ™ certification, you need to complete the following steps:

1. Complete the Mandatory Candidate Information (MCI) 
2. Complete the payment upon receipt of the invoice
3. Take the exam when you’re ready

Examination: email to request the examination questions when you’re ready to take the exam.   Examination comprised of 50 questions; Passing grade is 70%.
